CALGARY – The man accused in the 2013 murder of popular Calgary teacher Craig Kelloway pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder Monday.

Nicholas Rasberry didn’t know the victim until the day Kelloway, 31, was stabbed to death on May 4, 2013–the same day the two became neighbours. The men lived two doors away from each other, and met in the neighbourhood. Along with their significant others, they met for drinks, a barbecue and additional late-night drinks.

An emotional and disturbing 911 recording from the day of Kelloway’s murder was played in court Monday.

Rasberry can be heard telling the operator, “there’s a guy stabbed multiple times by me; oh my God.”

Rasberry, 32, sat with his head down in the prisoner’s box as the call was played.

On the recording, Raspberry was heard saying, “he tried to have sex with me…and I f–ing killed him for it.”

The operator repeatedly told Rasberry how to help Kelloway, at one point asking him to make sure his airway was clear. Rasberry is heard saying, “I’m looking in your mouth…I f—ing hate you but…”

He then tells the operator, “he’s breathing, he’s gasping for air…he’s spitting blood.”

The 911 call lasts 12 minutes.

More to come.
