UPDATE: Recent Saskatoon dog poisonings traced to mushrooms

SASKATOON – City officials are urging people keep a close eye on their pets after being informed that animals may have recently come in contact with poisonous materials at the Avalon Dog Park. A family has experienced the loss of a pet; however it has not been confirmed it was the result of poison.

On Wednesday afternoon, the city sent out a press release expressing sympathy to the family. The city also says it is not aware of any similar incidents in the past.

An inspection at the dog park at the south end of Broadway Avenue has taken place but turned up nothing. Animal control officers and maintenance staff are keeping an eye out for any unusual materials.

According to city officials, the matter may be referred to police for a criminal investigation.

Anyone who spots unusual materials in dog parks is asked to maintain a safe distance and call 306-975-8478 immediately.
