REGINA – Dozens of children helped turn sod at the site of one of Regina’s newest joint-use school sites Thursday morning.
The Queen City will be home to six new elementary schools over the next few years, all of which are being built in newer subdivisions.
The combined public and Catholic buildings will be constructed in Greens on Gardiner, Harbour Landing and Rosewood Park.
Three of the schools with be Catholic and three will be public, creating spaces for over 3,300 additional students.
Construction is already beginning in hopes that the classrooms will be ready for students in September 2017.
“We’re here to celebrate the largest school-building project Saskatchewan has ever seen. These six schools in Regina are part of 18 that are being built at nine locations, including Saskatoon, Martensville and Warman,” said education minister Don Morgan.
The cost of all 18 schools is set at over $635 million.
