EDMONTON — Police say a 32-year-old man who was found dead on a central Edmonton street Monday morning is the city’s latest homicide victim.
An autopsy confirmed Shawn Richard died of a stab wound to the chest.
Richard was found lying on 95 Street between 117 and 118 Avenues at around 3:30 a.m. Monday.
Police say they don’t know exactly what happened, but believe Richard was involved in a fight. Officers believe he ran away then collapsed on the ground.
“I don’t know what led to this dispute. I know that Mr. Richard has a background in this area, it’s not the best background. He is known to a lot of people in this area that hang out on the streets,” said Staff Sgt. Bill Clark with the Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section.
“He’s been dealing drugs in this area and unfortunately his choice of lifestyle may have led to this event, we don’t know that yet.”

Police say several neighbours have come forward with information but they are searching for the driver of a black pick-up truck that was seen driving near the crime scene at about 3:20 a.m. Homicide detectives believe the driver may have information that will assist the investigation.
