Metal detectors coming to Rexall Place for Oilers home games

EDMONTON — New security measures will be in place when Oilers fans walk through the doors of Rexall Place this upcoming hockey season.

The building will be equipped with walk-through metal detectors, which will be in operation during all Oilers home games for the 2015-2016 NHL season.

The heightened security measure is mandated by the National Hockey League and applies to all 30 NHL arenas this season.

“The move aligns Rexall Place with security best practices for major professional sporting venues across North America,” the Oilers said in a media release Tuesday.

These devices add additional safety and security to patrons, players and staff accessing Rexall Place.

The metal detectors will be in place by Aug. 18 and will be operational by Sept. 16.
