Federal Election 2015: Churchill-Keewatinook Aski riding results

Summary: Manitoba’s large northern riding, NDP MP Niki Ashton seeks a third term in Churchill-Keewatinook Aski.

Boundaries: Everything north of Lake Winnipegosis in western Manitoba, Portage Bay in central Manitoba, and Powerview-Pine Falls in eastern Manitoba.

Last Election: Ashton defeated Conservative candidate Wally Daudrich by 25 per cent.

History: With the exception of Liberal MP Elijah Harper from 1993 to 1997, and Liberal MP Tina Keeper from 2006 to 2008, the Churchill riding has been held by the NDP since 1979.

Demographics: The median income ($16,606) is the lowest in Canada, and the median age (26.3) is second lowest. 74.7 per cent of people in Churchill-Keewatinook Aski identified as Aboriginal in the 2011 census, the second highest number in Canada.
