Man wearing headphones killed by train in Banff

A 27 year old man has died after being hit by a train near Banff, and it appears it’s another case of headphones causing the man to not hear the train coming.

It happened about 4:20 p.m. near the Buffalo Street crossing, just east of the Banff train station.

The man was on CP Rail property, but investigators haven’t determined which way he was walking.

Crew sounded the horn and blew the whistle but was unable to stop the train in time.

Police do say he was wearing headphones and didn’t hear the train.

The crew from the train are being given counseling.

Investigators are still on scene.

Last week, a Leduc teen was killed by a train after walking on the tracks with headphones on. He was not able to hear the train coming before he was hit.
