TORONTO — Actress Valerie Harper was rushed to hospital Wednesday night after reportedly being found unconscious at a theatre in Maine.
The 75-year-old star of Rhoda and The Mary Tyler Moore Show was found unconscious backstage at the Ogunquit Playhouse, located about 45 minutes south of Portland, shortly before 9:00 p.m.
Harper appears in the second act of the musical comedy Nice Work If You Can Get It, which was scheduled to run until Aug. 15, as Millicent Winter.
“Valerie Harper was taken to a local hospital as a precaution … after reporting that she was not feeling well,” the venue’s executive artistic director Bradford T. Kenney said in a statement.
“She is resting comfortably and will remain in the hospital for observation for the time being.”
A source told ET, though, “It doesn’t look good.”
In January 2013, Harper was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare brain cancer that usually proves fatal within months.
Last March, the actress credited exercise and acupuncture with helping her stay healthy.
“Things are good,” she told People. “I’m so grateful. Here’s another day!”
Harper, whose mother Iva McConnell was Canadian, has been married to second husband Tony Cacciotti since 1987. The couple has a daughter.
