EDMONTON – Ominous clouds and cracks of thunder preceded a downpour as parts of the Capital Region were pummelled with rain and – in some cases – hail Thursday afternoon.
The storms began just southwest of the foothills and tracked towards the northeast, bringing with it pea-sized hail, heavy rain and damaging winds just shy of 100 km/h.

The severe thunderstorm activity was expected to remain concentrated in communities south and southeast of the City of Edmonton.
Edmonton experienced some thunderstorm activity with a few pockets of showers expected through parts of the afternoon and early evening. These systems should be non-severe in nature.
