MONTREAL – City officials announced Monday that Laval plans to go ahead with a $120-million sports complex.
The project is slated to be completed by 2014 and will include a 10-thousand-seat rink, which is also to be used for concerts.
There will also be two, smaller rinks.

The mayor of Laval called it a dream come true for his city and described it as a potential cultural and sporting hub.
Gilles Vaillancourt said the facility will be paid for with funds from the provincial government, Laval’s budget surplus and the private sector.
He promised there would be no tax increase for Laval residents to cover the construction costs.
Emilio Migliozzi of the opposition group Mouvement Lavallois said the project is a frivolous way to spend taxpayers’ money.
The group is calling for a referendum on the issue.
Called the future “Place Bell,” the arena is to be managed by Envenko, a promoter that also manages Montreal’s Bell Centre.
