UPDATE: Alberta man sentenced for killing his father, attacking sister in 2015
RCMP have laid charges in the death of a man whose body was found along the Trans-Canada Highway.
Cochrane RCMP and EMS were called to Highway 1 between Highway 40 and Morley Road just before midnight on Wednesday. When they arrived, officers found one man dead in the eastbound lane.
The Southern Alberta Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation, and announced on Friday that one man had been charged in connection to the death.
Tristan Wesley, 27, is facing a handful of charges, including second-degree murder, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.
The victim’s identity has not been released, but RCMP confirm he was a 55-year-old man from the Morley First Nation.
The accused is also from Morley First Nation, and police said the two were known to each other. RCMP are not seeking any other suspects in the incident.
He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Provincial Court on July 21st.
