Competition and community at St. Anne’s market

ST-ANNE-DE-BELLEVUE – Pointe-Claire native Gordon Patterson drives 45 minutes from his Ontario home to sell his wares at the St. Anne’s farmer’s market.

Patterson bills himself as the only “seed-to-bottle” hot sauce vendor in the area landing him a coveted booth at the market.

There are 40 stalls at the market and a one-year waiting list for new vendors hoping for a chance to sell their products at the popular fair.

“He’s a unique vendor with a high quality product,” said market manager Patti Murphy. “That’s why he’s here.”

This is the 14th year of the market, which has become a summer tradition for West Islanders.

Resident Erica White has been going to the market since it opened.

“Why wouldn’t you buy your groceries here?” she said.

Organically grown vegetables, tea and even homemade gourmet dog biscuits are all popular staples at the market.
