UPDATE: Woman dies after crash near Onoway

EDMONTON — Emergency crews were called to a serious two-vehicle crash on Highway 43 and Highway 633 late Friday morning.

A witness, one of the first on scene, tells Global News it appears a white pickup truck hit a minivan.

Aaron Garnier said firefighters from Lac Ste Anne were on scene as well as RCMP.

He said at least one person was taken by STARS air ambulance around 10:45 Friday morning.

RCMP said shortly before 10:30 a.m. a Mazda wagon was heading east on Secondary Highway 633 when the driver tried to cross the highway. The wagon was struck by a GMC pickup truck heading south on Highway 43.

The woman – the driver and sole occupant of the wagon – was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She died in hospital. Her name has not been released.

The two people in the truck suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the crash.

Onoway is about 70 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
