CALGARY- A former Foster Parent of the Year has been sentenced to 10 years for sexually abusing four boys in his care.

Garry Prokopishin, now in his 50s, stood trial and was convicted in Calgary last October on charges of having sexual contact with a youth by a person in authority.

It’s alleged most of the assaults took place at Prokopishin’s Beddington home between 2001 and 2008 and involved teenaged boys considered “at risk.”

Prokopishin showed no remorse at his sentencing on Tuesday as the judge recommended he serve time in Bowden Institution.

Bowden Institution is a medium and minimum security facility, located along the QEII Highway in Innisfail, Alberta.
