MONCTON – Codiac RCMP are investigating after the body of an older man was found in a shed in a residential neighbourhood in Moncton.

The man was found deceased on Joyce Avenue in the McLaughlin Road and Morton Avenue area at around 1 p.m. Friday.

RCMP are still trying to confirm the man’s identity and will be conducting an autopsy to determine his cause of death.

Andrew Hall told Global News he was the one who found the man.

“I was working on my car, and I decided to go check for a piece of plywood,” he said.

He said that’s when he entered the shed and found the man’s body and called police.

Hall said it was clear that the man had been there for a few weeks. Hall said the man was homeless and he often saw him around the area and knew that he often took shelter in the shed.

Rob Wylie told Global News he also knew the man, and often gave him money for food or coffee.

“I think he should be classified as more than just a homeless man,” he said. “He worked for whatever he could making money, picking bottles.”

Wylie said he hadn’t seen the man in about a month but thought maybe he found shelter somewhere else.

“He was a great old man,” he said. “I would say he was only in his early fifties. I just think he was a real good guy.”
