EDMONTON — Strong winds and dry conditions made for quite the dust storm in Edmonton Saturday, particularly downtown.
Wind speeds were fairly light for the majority of the morning, with gusts of 37 kilometres an hour around 11 a.m. By 2 p.m. those gusts picked up to about 67 km/h.
Edmontonians quickly turned to social media to share their pictures of the dust storm that briefly took over the city Saturday afternoon.
The wind was also quite gusty in northern parts of the province.
Extremely windy conditions were a major concern for firefighters south of the city Saturday. Dry and windy conditions led to a couple grass fires, one in Calgary’s Nose Hill Park and another just northwest of the city.
Maximum wind gusts hit 67 km/h in Calgary Saturday and 100 km/h in Lethbridge.

Winds out of the northwest are expected to continue in the Edmonton region, gusting at speeds of 30 to 50 kilometres an hour Saturday night.
