WATCH: Global News reporter reacts to goal in last minute of NHL game

WINNIPEG – You could say Global News reporter Shannon Cuciz found the atmosphere electrifying as she covered the Winnipeg Jets Thursday night.

Cuciz was surrounded by screaming, euphoric Jets fans as she covered Winnipeg’s final playoff push on Thursday night.

She was nearly speechless on live television as the Calgary Flames scored the goal that guaranteed the Jets a wildcard spot in the Western Conference quarterfinals.

“The atmosphere right now … is ELECTRIC!” she screamed over the roar of fans at The Pint in Winnipeg as the Flames scored their third goal against the Los Angeles Kings. “It is now … Calgary just scored!”

The television in front of Cuciz was delayed slightly, so she saw the goal after the crowd erupted, she explained later.

“I just heard everyone scream,” she said. “As soon as I saw on the TV, which was slightly delayed, that they had scored — I was pretty excited, as you can see.”

The Calgary Flames win made it impossible for the Los Angeles Kings to overtake Winnipeg in the race for a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

B.C.-born Cuciz, who has lived in Winnipeg for eight months, said she’s never experienced anything like the excitement of the Jets fans, first at The Pint and then at an impromptu gathering at Winnipeg’s famous Portage Avenue and Main Street intersection.

She grew up a Vancouver Canucks fan, but she’s loving her new home.

“Now I’m a Jets fan,” she said. “After experiencing that, I feel like a true Winnipegger.”
