Young Burnaby painter holds her first art display to raise funds for Canucks Autism Network

UPDATE: Linden was able to raise $2,165 for Children’s Hospital and the Canucks Autism Network at her fundraiser auction.

A six-year-old budding painter from Burnaby is putting on her first art display for the public to see tonight.

Six-year-old Linden Ford has been painting non-stop to present 21 of her newest paintings she hopes will hope raise money for the Canucks Autism Network.

Linden suffers from high-functioning autism and painting is her way to express herself, says Linden’s mom Jessica Norman.

Linden first started auctioning off her work for charity a year ago when Global News caught up with her work.

“[Art] is something that she really enjoys doing. It is something that makes her feel calm,” Linden’s mom told Global News at the time. “I do not want the focus to be on her autism. I believe in ability. I believe that Linden has this amazing talent, and I want people to want to donate to charity because of what she is doing, not because she has autism.”

Norman says Linden’s art is getting better and more creative as she is moving forward.

“She has a paintbrush in her hands every day almost. I am speechless with the amount of dedication she has toward all this stuff,” says Norman. “I am honoured that I am her mom.”

Since Linden started raising money with her painting, her little brother has also been diagnosed with autism.

There are over 9,000 children and youth diagnosed with autism in British Columbia. The Canucks Autism Network helps improve the quality of life for families living with autism in B.C.

Norman says the organization has helped her family a lot, giving her children an opportunity to be themselves.

Tonight’s auction benefiting the Canucks Autism Network will take place at 2020 Yukon Street and starts at 6 p.m.
