CALGARY – The town of High River is about to get larger; the province has approved an application to annex 1,769 acres of land north of the town.
The land will double the size of the town’s current geographical size.
“This is an incredibly important annexation because it will provide the space needed to meet expected growth over the next 30 years,” says Ian Fawcett, senior policy planner.

Homeowners in the annexed area will become High River residents; information has been sent to those affected by the acquisition. Town administration is already consulting with new and current residents on how to best integrate the new area into the community and what development plans residents would like to see moving forward.
“By consulting with the public and all stakeholders, we can work together to create a vision for how this area will be developed,” says Rob Milne, director of development services.
Public open houses will take place for all current and new residents; information on dates and times can be found by following High River, Our Community, Our Future on Facebook. Residents can also complete an online survey available at www.HighRiver.ca.
The annex will take effect January 1st, 2012.
