EDMONTON — A man is in hospital in life-threatening condition after being shot in the neck at a Cochrane-area shooting range.
Police were called to a shooting range on Highway 68, about two kilometres south of Jumping Pound Creek, around 3 p.m. Sunday.
RCMP say the man’s friend shot a high-powered rifle at a metal plate, which was about 27 metres away. The bullet ricocheted off the plate and hit the victim in the neck.
The man’s friend drove him to Highway 1 where they met EMS. The man was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary where he went into surgery. Police said Sunday afternoon he was in serious, life-threatening condition but was expected to survive.
RCMP say while the shooting appears to have been an accident, an investigation is underway.
