Campaign raises money for family of two kids killed in fire

Jennifer Hartley has no personal affiliation to the family or the Saskatchewan community but she said she feels impacted.

REGINA – A woman from Ajax, Ontario is raising money for the family of two children killed in a house fire on a Saskatchewan reserve.

Two-year-old Harley Cheenanow and his 18-month-old sister Haley were killed in a fire early Tuesday on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

Jennifer Hartley started the GoFundMe page called Tragic Fire- Help Haley and Harley.

She has no personal affiliation to the family or the Saskatchewan community but she said she feels impacted.

“I just think of it as a mom and I couldn’t imagine having to face losing two of my sons,” said Hartley via phone from Ajax. “I feel like as a community and even as a country that for something this tragic, we should be able to do what we can for people.”

Hartley hopes the money can be used to pay for funeral costs and help the family find a new home.

The online campaign began Friday and has raised more than $1,000 so far.
