Calgary woman accused of killing daughter near Saskatoon heads to trial

SASKATOON – A Calgary woman accused of killing her daughter last year outside of Saskatoon is heading to trial. Frances Sugar is charged with the second-degree murder of Lindey Sugar.

Mounties were called to a fight south of Saskatoon on June 23, 2014 after Saskatoon police told them a woman had suffered a neck injury.

Lindey Sugar, 34, was rushed to Royal University Hospital where she was declared dead. She had ties to both Saskatchewan and Alberta.

At the time, police said the death occurred as a result of a fight that took place outside a vehicle.

Her mother was charged two days later with second-degree murder and failing to comply with an undertaking.

On Thursday, Frances Sugar was committed to stand trial. A trial date has not been set.
