Viral video leads to arrests of Squamish bike thieves

WATCH: The alleged thieves caught on video by a homeowners surveillance camera have been caught. John Daly has more on who was arrested and what the victims got back.

Two men suspected of stealing high-end bikes in Squamish late last year have been arrested and charged by police, but the bicycles in question are still nowhere to be found.

19-year-old Nathan Marcus Rodney and a 17-year-old from Squamish who cannot be named were arrested on January 8, a week after high-quality video of two people taking three bikes – a green 20-speed Norco Range, a men’s black 11-speed Norco Range, and a blue men’s 27-speed Giant Rainier – went viral.

Experts say it’s unlikely the bicycles themselves will ever be recovered.

“There’s more than enough outlets online for you to go and get the bike sold. A lot of the bikes that are stolen are from professional thieves,” says David Assenhein of Norco/John Henry Bikes.
