VANCOUVER – Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson is back on the job.
Robertson won a highly publicized race against NPA’s Suzanne Anton, beating his opponent by 18,853 votes.
It looked like it was going to be a close battle at first.
Robertson started off leading Anton by a small margin when first results were announced around 9 o’clock, but that changed by the minute.
The crowd at Robertson’s headquarters at the Sheraton Wall Centre erupted in loud cheers every time screen boards showed Robertson gaining on Anton.
The mood was different at Suzanne Anton’s NPA camp.

Anton conceded defeat saying she is confident everyone elected tonight in Vancouver “is there for the right reasons.”
Back at Robertson’s headquarters, the jovial crowd greeted the mayor elect onto the stage with wild applause after all votes were counted.
“I had a privilege to serve as a mayor and now I have that honour for three more years,” said Robertson.
“We can accomplish great things in Vancouver. Every single person in this room has the power to enact change.”
In his acceptance speech, Robertson thanked the people of Vancouver , Suzanne Anton, countless campaign volunteers and the whole Vision team.
He also thanked his wife and children, and the families of all the other candidates, who, in his words, had to make great sacrifices for the success of their loved ones.
Robertson concluded the night by saying it’s victory tonight, but it’s back to work tomorrow.
