Cold temps to arrive in Edmonton in New Year

EDMONTON – After weeks of above seasonal temperatures Edmonton is expected to be hit with extreme cold to start 2015.

Environment Canada says the chill will set the pattern for at least the next two weeks, although a short-lived temperature boost is expected before New Year’s.

Highs are expected to rise between -3°C and -6°C from Tuesday to Thursday, but cold air will hit the city starting Friday.

The temperature is expected to drop to -12°C as a high on Friday and down to -17°C by the weekend, with lows dropping to -23°C .

The normal high in Edmonton for this time of year is -8°C and the low is -18°C .
