Two warehouse-type buildings were destroyed in the north end of the city.

Estevan Fire Rescue also received reports of multiple explosions, likely due to propane and fuel tanks in the area.

Fire Chief Shane Code said crews had to brave freezing temperatures.

“When it’s that cold it takes a toll,” said Code. “Fighting a fire that size is a lot of work anyways and when you have 15 or 16 dedicated individuals working upwards of eight hours in that kind of an environment, it’s difficult.”

The cold temperatures also caused problems with some of the equipment. A steamer truck had to be called in.

The initial report of a fire came in around 5:00 a.m. Sunday.
