MONTREAL — Police are investigating the fourth armoured truck heist in Montreal in a year after a Garda security truck was robbed Sunday.
Robbers got away with thousands of dollars after locking two Garda security guards inside the Royal Bank near the corner of Jean-Talon Street and Galeries D’Anjou Boulevard at about 10:20 p.m.
The employees called police, who arrived to discover the emptied armoured vehicle not far from the bank.
The exact amount stolen has not been confirmed, but authorities said it was a large amount of money and in the thousands of dollars.

The fire department freed the Garda security workers by cutting the bank’s locks, who were then interviewed by police.
No arrests have been made.
This is the fourth heist of a Garda armoured truck in Montreal this year, following incidents in Brossard, Longueuil and Rosemont.

The robberies have caused the security workers’ union to ask for more guards in armoured vehicles.
Police are trying to determine if the crimes are linked.
