Condos may replace iconic Vancouver brewery

Molson Coors announced today that it will no longer bottle beer at its landmark Burrard Street location.

In announcing the end of bottling at the Vancouver brewery, Molson cited government subsidies that favour smaller breweries.

While Molson will continue to produce cans and kegs here, the downsizing is already fueling speculation about the site’s future.

The land’s market value is probably much higher than its assessed value of $33 million.

There’s speculation in Vancouver’s development community that the Burrard Street site will be redeveloped into condos.

It’s a strategy that seems to be working as the giants like Labatt are long gone from New Westminster; the lands redeveloped into the Brewery District.

Powell Street Craft Brewery is one of dozens of micro breweries popping up throughout B.C.

The brewery just opened its new facility a couple of months ago, having outgrown its old place just down the street.
