MONTREAL — It was the year that signaled the end for many Montreal businesses, many of them holding a place dear in the hearts of Montrealers.

Chapters

In July, the Chapters bookstore on Stanley and Ste. Catherine announced it would close down and transform into a Victoria’s Secret lingerie store. Even though there’s still an Indigo nearby in Place Montreal Trust, the Chapters on Ste. Catherine had become a Montreal staple.

Montreal-based womenswear retailer Boutique Jacob Inc. said it was abandoning its restructuring efforts and closing all its 92 stores in Canada after efforts to “try to breathe new life into the company” failed.

It’s the end of an era: the owners of mom-and-pop-run Magnan’s Tavern announced that the steakhouse would be closing its doors after 82 years in business.

After twenty years in business, the high-end supper club, “Globe” closed its doors on St. Laurent Boulevard.
