CALGRY – Security camera at Calgary Transit CTrain stations are now in high definition.
The city unveiled 480 new cameras on Friday as part of a $6-million upgrade of the CCTV system. The cameras provide a much clearer picture of the CTrain line and will be monitored 24/7.

“When it was an analog system it was very grainy,” says Brian Whitelaw. “We could tell something was happening generally but it was difficult to see people’s faces.”
200 additional HD cameras will be added to the west LRT line when it opens in December 2012.
For privacy reasons, the system does not record audio. Most cameras are focused within train stations but some are zooming in on park n’ ride lots.
Surveillance will soon expand to CTrain cars making for a safer ride.
