Carbon monoxide poisoning sends 12 to hospital

MONTREAL – City firefighters evacuated 20 people from a three-storey building on Mont-Royal avenue between De Lorimier and des Erables early Monday afternoon.

The building’s heating system was under repair causing carbon monoxide to seep into the building.

In all 12 people, including a firefighter, were taken to hospital.

Another 20 were treated on the scene by paramedics from Urgences-Santé.

Gaz Metro and the fire department are now ventilating the building. The occupants will not be allowed to return until all traces of carbon monoxide have disappeared.
