EDMONTON — The cat population at the Edmonton Humane Society has reached a “critical point.”
The EHS says the number of stray cats it has accepted in recent months has far outnumbered the cats being adopted, leading to a “dire shortage of space within the shelter.”
“We have been getting in more cats than we can house,” said Dr. Anthea Smith, Director of Animal Health. “Overcrowding of cats in a shelter puts them at increased stress and risk for disease. We desperately need the public’s help in providing homes for these shelter cats.”
The EHS says it never turns away stray animals brought in from outside Edmonton. However, the shelter is closed to owners who want to surrender their cats.
Anyone who is thinking of adding a cat to their family is being asked to consider adopting from the EHS.
