VANCOUVER – The RCMP say former Edmonton Eskimo football player Adam Braidwood faces weapons charges in British Columbia after a shooting during the weekend
The 27-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday to face charges related to possession and discharge of a firearm, as well as breach of a recognizance.
Police say in a news release that several residents in Port Coquitlam called 911 on Sunday morning reporting what appeared to be a break-and-enter.
Officers arrived and found a man holding a gun, who was immediately arrested.
The news release says there was no sign of a break-in, but shots had been fired and the man they arrested was injured.
Braidwood, who was released from the Eskimos in April, is currently out on bail for charges for two incidents Edmonton that include uttering threats, assault, sex assault and firearms offences.
Braidwood’s defence lawyer in Edmonton declined to comment.
Sunday’s shooting in Port Coquitlam forced organizers of the annual Terry Fox Run to reroute the event.
