Watch: It’s not easy being green – and Wicked

WINNIPEG – Preparing for one of the lead roles in Wicked requires a lot of patience — and a lot of green.

Global News goes behind the scenes at Winnipeg’s Centennial Concert Hall Thursday to see the transformation of actor Alyssa Fox into Elphaba, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West.

“You’re preparing right up until the minute you go on stage,” says Fox.

It’s a team effort.

“The greening for me, is about doing it as perfectly as I can, to give it that translucent appearance so that the audience gets captivated,” says makeup artist Joyce McGilberry who’s been doing makeup since 2006. “Growing up I loved storytelling..I love just walking into that world of make believe and believing it.”
