SALMON ARM — Salmon Arm’s South Broadview school was the target of arsonists Sunday.
Police responded to an alarm at 1:30 p.m. to find a window had been smashed and burning material tossed inside. When firefighters arrived, flames were visible and bystanders were trying to extinguish the fire.
Fire crews say there was a significant amount of smoke inside the school and firefighters ventilated the building. It was contained to one corer of a classroom.
Police picked up three youths shortly after; aged 6, 8 and 10.

According to Cst. Kris Clark, the children cannot be charged under the criminal code, as they are all under the age of 12.
He said that there may be other consequences though, including civil liability for the parents and referral of the the case to the provincial government.
