Harinder Malhi has kept Brampton-Springdale a Liberal riding.

Malhi won with 40 per cent of the vote in early results. The NDP’s Gurpreet Dhillon won 31.5 per cent, and PC candidate Pam Hundal won 24.4 per cent.

This seat was wide open after longtime MPP Linda Jeffrey resigned to run for mayor of Brampton. The riding has been Liberal since 2003, though the 2011 election was close.

Hundal also ran in 2011 but failed to unseat Jeffrey at that time.

Hundal is a lawyer and community advocate. She was born to immigrant parents in Brampton and has volunteered for many community organizations in the city.

Malhi is a school trustee and realtor in Brampton and has worked as an administrator for summer camps.
