Calgary Stampeders player charged, after cab driver assaulted downtown

CALGARY- Calgary Stampeders player Quincy Butler is facing assault charges, after an early morning incident involving a cab driver.

Police were called to the Cowboys Casino at 4 St. and 12 Ave. S.E. around 3 a.m. on Thursday. When they arrived, they learned a taxi driver had asked a fare for a deposit, and was then allegedly assaulted.

A witness tried to intervene, and was also injured in the process. Bystanders from a nearby establishment eventually stepped in.

Quincy Butler, a defensive back with the football team, has since been charged with two counts of common assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 26.
