CALGARY – Canada’s new Sports Hall of Fame will open to the public in less than a week, but some honoured members and the people who helped pay for it got a sneak peek Thursday evening.
Former Olympic champion swimmer Alex Baumann, Alberta culture minister Lindsay Blackett and tourism minister Cindy Ady, plus Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi were among those who inspected the Great Hall and eleven galleries devoted to Canada’s sports history.

The 44,000-square foot facility at Calgary’s Canada Olympic Park has 520 honoured members and over 1,000 artifacts on display.
The Hall of Fame opens to the public July 1.
The federal and provincial governments and the City of Calgary paid for the construction of the $30-million facility.
The Hall has been looking for a new home and has existed only on-line for several years. The Hall’s previous home was at Toronto’s Exhibition Place.
