One dog starved to death — another found shot

The BC SPCA has put out a public appeal dealing with two animal cruelty charges involving dogs, one in Chase and the other in Revelstoke.

The investigation in Chase deals with a four-month-old German Shepherd puppy found with multiple pellet shot wounds.

The animal was found in Chase Provincial Park near Nisquanles Lake.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“Some individuals out walking their dogs by Nisquanles Lake earlier this month saw the puppy cowering under a bush,” says BC SPCA senior animal protection officer Kathy Woodward. “They took him to a veterinary clinic in Salmon Arm, where the pellets were removed.”

The dog has since been adopted.

In Revelstoke, the BC SPCA is investigating a case where it appears a dog was starved to death.

The dog was found in a cardboard box at a truck turn-around at Glacier National Park.

“Inside the box was a dog crate containing a deceased terrier-cross dog,” says Woodward.

She says there’s reason to believe the dog was alive when it was abandoned.

The dog was tan in colour and had no ID.

Woodward says the dog only weighed 11 pounds. It should have weighed 35 pounds.

“A necropsy is being carried out but it would appear that the dog was starved to death,” says Woodward.
