SASKATOON – Manufacturers in Saskatchewan had a successful February with $1.37 billion in sales, according to preliminary numbers released by Statistics Canada.
The agency said manufacturing rose by 12.8 per cent over February 2013.
Seasonally adjusted, this was the second highest growth rate among provinces. Newfoundland and Labrador posted a 45.1 per cent increase to $592 million.
The Canadian average was 3.3 per cent, on a year-over-year basis.
“Saskatchewan-made products do incredibly well in the global marketplace and that’s because buyers understand the level of quality they are getting when they purchase goods from any of this province’s thriving manufacturers,” said Bill Boyd, Saskatchewan’s economy minister.
On a month-over-month basis, Saskatchewan recorded the fourth highest growth rate among provinces with sales jumping 3.5 per cent.
StatsCan says Canadian manufacturing sales increased 1.4 per cent to $51.2 billion in February compared to the previous month.
