He was last in Vancouver to do a guest spot in the short-lived series Alcatraz.
The two stars are joining a cast that already includes Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class), Jane Levy (Suburgatory), Amy Ryan (The Office) and Holt McCallany (Golden Boy).
Monster Trucks is a $125 million action flick that will rely heavily on computer-generated images.
As reported here last December, it will be shot in the Vancouver area until mid-July for a May 2015 release.
Monster Trucks is the live-action debut for director Chris Wedge (Epic, Ice Age).
The list of movies currently in production in B.C. includes Night at the Museum 3 starring Ben Stiller and The Age of Adaline with Blake Lively and Harrison Ford.
