With less than two weeks to go until the Alberta referendum, the province’s election administrator says more than 3,000 mail-in ballots have been returned with errors that make them invalid.
Elections Alberta says some ballot packages were returned with either declaration forms missing, errors or issues with identification.
But they say there’s still time to submit the correct information via email.

I’m glad a neutral entity is scrutinizing ballots. We don’t want to become like the US, which ranks low on world democracy indices. We need to support institutions like Elections Alberta as they are bulwarks of democracy.
I did a mail in vote and that was one thing I was worried about is the vote being rejected.
During the petition for a referendum, Elections Alberta rejected petitions that had cell phone numbers instead of landline numbers that didn’t match their records. Rejected mailing addresses that didn’t match the home address. Rejected names missing the middle names that didn’t match their records.
That is why the petition for an independence referendum results were so low.

How does one check to see if theirs is invalid? Is the election team contacting ED and VA offices to distribute this information so people don’t just think they voted and didn’t?
