Matt Stajan takes leave of absence after family tragedy

CALGARY – Calgary Flames centre Matt Stajan is taking a leave of absence from the team following the death of his child.

The Flames posted a note on their website on Sunday revealing that Stajan’s and his wife Katie were grieving the loss of their son, who passed away shortly after his birth.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Katie and Matt at this difficult time,” said a statement on the website. “We appreciate that everyone has and will continue to respect their privacy during this period.

A private memorial service will be held at a late date.
