The Health Science Association of Saskatchewan (HSAS) is preparing to make a counter-offer to the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations (SAHO) after SAHO tabled a new contract offer to the union Wednesday morning.

That is the word from HSAS President Cathy Dickson after the two sides met in Regina.

Although SAHO said the offer was final, “SAHO indicated that they are prepared to continue negotiations, and we are taking that suggestion seriously,” said Dickson

HSAS may make their counter-offer as early as Thursday.

In the meantime, HSAS says they are putting on hold any plans for escalating any strike action.

HSAS carried out rotating strikes in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Regina and Yorkton in June to back their contract demands of a wage increase of 18.5 per cent over four years.

SAHO’s last offer before Wednesday was 7.5 per cent over the same period with a market adjustment for EMS workers.

HSAS represents approximately 3,000 health care workers in Saskatchewan.

They have been without a contract for over two years.
