TORONTO – The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has officially launched the trial of its new numbered signage system at Bloor-Yonge Station on Monday.

The new proposed signage is part of the recommendations illustrated in the New Wayfinding Standards report released last fall.

The Yonge-University-Spadina line has now added the number one to its name.

The Bloor-Danforth Line is now labelled line two, Scarborough RT Line number three and the Sheppard Line as number four.

The future Eglinton-Crosstown line will become Line 5 when it opens.

The TTC board endorsed the new signs last October with the hope of someday having all the lines follow the new system.

The numeric codes are promised to offer several advantages such as making it easier for first time users to remember, accessible to riders with language or cognitive barriers and will not need to be changed when lines are extended.

Meanwhile, St. George Station will get new wayfinding signage in the coming weeks as well.

Under the plan, subway platforms will also see enhanced “you are here” maps.

The TTC is encouraging riders to offer feedback on the new system by either going onto the TTC website of by email to wayfinding@ttc.ca.
