The Canada-U.S. hockey rivalry has spilled onto the streets of Sochi.
Canada met the U.S. in an impromptu street hockey match in the Olympic Village. Playing for Canada: silver medal figure skater Patrick Chan, speed skater Gilmore Junio and Canadian chef de mission Steve Podborsky, among others.
According to the Canadian Olympic Committee, Team USA brought in a ringer: former NHL defenceman Bret Hedican, who used to play for the Hurricanes and Ducks.
Gary Bettman dropped the puck, and Patrick Chan scored one goal for Canada. The game was briefly interrupted by a forklift driving through, amid shouts of “Car! Car!”
The game ended in a 4-4 tie in overtime, and the teams celebrated with beers.
