TORONTO — Leonard Nimoy has been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) — a lung ailment most often caused by smoking.
“Smokers, please understand. If you quit after you’re diagnosed with lung damage it’s too late,” the 82-year-old Star Trek actor tweeted Thursday. “Quit now.”

Nimoy revealed he had COPD via Twitter on Jan. 29. “I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough.”
On Thursday, he said he is “still enjoying my life” and “doing OK.”
Nimoy said he can’t walk distances.
The actor is best known for playing Mr. Spock on the original Star Trek series and in several movies.
