COURTESY CFJC KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP were called to the CP Rail tracks just east of the Overlanders Bridge for a report of a pedestrian struck by a train on Wednesday, January 29th at around 8:25 pm.
Emergency Health Services and Kamloops Fire Rescue crews were also on scene in the 400-block of Victoria Street West.
RCMP Sergeant Dave Prentice says a man was walking eastbound on the tracks with his back to the train when he was struck and killed instantly.
He says CP crews attempted to apply to brakes, but were unable to stop before striking the man.
The BC Coroner’s Service was called in and removed the victim’s remains. Prentice says it will take some time to identify the victim, because of the severe trauma.
