WINNIPEG – A couple escaped uninjured when an RCMP cruiser rear-ended their Equinox and it ditched off Highway 50 in the rural municipality of Alonsa.
The cruiser and the crossover vehicle were travelling behind a snowplow at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when the Equinox driver came to a sudden stop, an RCMP news release said.
The cruiser hit the back of the Equinox, sending it into the ditch, then spun around, coming to a stop facing north in the southbound lane.
The RCMP officer in the cruiser suffered minor injuries. The 72-year-old man driving the Equinox and an 80-year-old woman passenger weren’t injured.
Blowing snow and low visibility were contributing factors in the collision, RCMP said.
RCMP are investigating the crash.
Alonsa is about 200 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
