Global News projects Chad Bachynski will be Regina’s next mayor.

“Tonight is a celebration of our collective commitment to our city,” Bachynski said after winning the election. “I am honoured and deeply humbled to accept the responsibility of serving as your next mayor. This is a role I don’t take lightly.”

With results from all polling stations, Bachynski has won with 31.06 per cent of the votes.

He defeats incumbent mayor Sandra Masters and former city councillor Lori Bresciani, both of whom secured a large share of votes, but not the majority needed to clinch the race.

“I think the residents of Regina voted for change pretty much across the board,” Masters said Wednesday night. ” I called Chad and congratulated him. He is a smart man. Being (mayor) is not without its challenges… he is an intelligent man and I am looking forward to watching it.

“It was an honour and privilege to serve the citizens of Regina.”

A resident of Regina for more than 25 years, Bachynski has largely ran on the promise of bringing a technical and calculated approach to city council.

He has a background of leading major infrastructure and project developments and hopes his expertise can approve efficiency within city council.

Bachynski attended the University of Saskatchewan from 2004 to 2008, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

Coming out of school, he worked at Applied Industrial Technologies LP in Regina for a number of years before working at SaskEnergy.

After just over a decade, he moved from the position of pipeline engineer to the manager of enterprise networks for the provincial Crown corporation.

Bachynski wasn’t the only winner in Regina on Wednesday night as city councillors and school board trustees were also elected.
